The small things build into bigger things. Thanking the doorman, the security guard, the receptionist, the barista, all of whom make your life easier by doing important jobs that enable you to do yours.
Whilst competing in a half-marathon race yesterday it was striking how many runners missed the bins and bags left for their cast-off water and energy drinks and carried on without a smile or a greeting. Saying a hurried “thank you” to one helper who was clearing up the bottles early in the race got me a hearty “you are welcome!”. It reminded me of all the people it takes and that are present to help us do our jobs.
Today, more than ever, our leaders are constantly on view, people watch what they do, and they imitate them. The positive words and positive thinking can spread and play a small part towards better things. Part of a leadership mindset is about doing the little things right and the little things build into bigger things.
